About the initiative
More than 100,000 children and teenagers go missing every year in Germany alone. That’s 200 to 300 cases each day. Luckily most are found—as a simple call to the police results in a missing child case—but many remain missing.
Every one of these tragedies has a face, but you can only find that face if you look closely. That is the idea behind Augen Auf, which translates roughly to Eyes Wide Open. Do you see a child standing alone? Is the child in an unusual place? Or with an unusual companion? Is something amiss? We believe it’s our duty to look after the children in our communities and that is only possibly when we keep our eyes wide open.
Augen Auf is a project of Initiative Vermisste Kinder. Initiative Vermisste Kinder provides impactful and effective support to the search efforts of the parents and families of missing children. Initiative Vermisste Kinder is also responsible for Germany’s free hotline for missing children, 116 000, and the facebook page Deutschland Findet Euch, or Germany Will Find You. Deutschland Findet Euch now has nearly 180,000 fans who assist in disseminating information over the internet.
Let’s make the world more human.
Keep your eyes open! Stick googly eyes anywhere you can to create a funny face, then post a picture of your googly face to our Facebook page. It is our hope that the more people who see these googly faces, the more people will keep their eyes open. And consequently, the fewer children will go missing in the future. We believe keeping our eyes open is the best protection for our children.
Googly eyes can make almost any object a face, you just have to be on the lookout!
Help us keep everyone’s eyes open.
